Start with purpose
Confirm that you need a copy of your own New Jersey criminal history. NJSP describes this as a personal record request through its CHRI process.

Follow the service code and fingerprint instructions for the personal-record category. Do not reuse a 212B name-check approval as a substitute.

State Bureau of Identification is New Jersey’s central repository. A personal New Jersey CHRI request should not be described as a nationwide court search.

Interpret the result by source
An online criminal-case tool, a 212B name check, and a fingerprint-based personal record have different rules and coverage. Sealed, expunged, confidential, or otherwise nonpublic material can be unavailable, and a repository summary may not show the document detail a court file contains. If the use is consequential, follow the case back to the responsible court or the Superior Court Records Center instead of treating “no hit” as proof that no record ever existed.
